Then we have just the thing for you — BBC Radio Ulster’s Hugo Duncan on your SatNav. And it could not be easier to get his voice onto your SatNav.
Radio Ulster has created some files for you to download. You’ll find links to them below along with instructions as to what to do with them. We have done two sets of files — one for TomTom users and one for Garmin Nuvi owners.
If you have the TomTom home software, we recommend that you search for Hugo’s voice and then add it to your device. If that does not work try following the steps below. These should work for most TomTom devices.

Hugo’s voice may be displayed as a ‘special’ voice in some TomTom models so if you are having difficulty finding it try searching for voices labelled something other than ‘Hugo’.
Note this will only work with Garmin Nuvi models.
A common TomTom problem seems to be if your SatNav already has voice files called data72, data91 or data 92.
If this is the case, once you've downloaded the files to your PC, you can try changing the number. It's best to choose a number between 71-99. For example, if you already have a file called data72.chk, try renaming it to data99.chk.
Also change data72.vif to data99.vif. You then need to open the *.vif file in a text editor like Notepad. Once open in the editor, change the data72.chk text to data99.chk and then save the changes you've made. Choose a number between 71-99 that's available on your device.
Before making any changes to your TomTom or your Garmin SatNav, it's always recommended that you back-up the data (which can be done with the supplied software).
When your SatNav is connected to a computer through a USB port always wait until any action you are running (copying the files, upgrading the application, installing the maps) is complete before disconnecting or switching it off .
Failure to do so may damage the data on the SD card or the Hard Drive.
